Anthropic tells investors of US$16.8 billion quarter before IPO
Anthropic, maker of the Claude chatbot, told potential investors it earned US$16.8 billion in revenue in the September quarter, CNBC and the BBC report. That's about 45% up on the previous quarter, though slower than the 140%-plus jump earlier this year, according to The Decoder. The company reportedly said it was profitable on an adjusted basis, an accounting measure that leaves out some costs. Its sharemarket listing is reportedly planned for November, and reports differ on whether investors left impressed.
Why it matters: If your team relies on Claude, these figures suggest its maker is on firmer financial footing. With AI firms in a months-long price war, it's still worth reviewing your subscription costs regularly.
